Meta Description

Everybody wants to optimize his site for search engines. Here comes something you should know.

A long time ago, there was some rumor about meta tags. Nowadays, it seems they are useless. Everybody could put something in there, so search engines don’t pay much attention to them. However, I noticed that you can still affect your search engine results by using the meta description tag.

<meta name="description" content="Your text" />

Your description will actually appear on Google. It’ll be shown if

  • the keywords someone searched for are in the description
  • the keywords are not found in the body, but in the title or URL
  • you do a search using “site:” only

You see, the meta description can still be useful. Users and potential clients will benefit from a clear description.

Bundle your del.icio.us tags

There’s a new feature over at del.icio.us. You can bundle your tags now. That makes it much easier for you to sort your bookmarks.

http://del.icio.us/settings/YOURUSERID/bundle

this lets you assign tags to “bundles” which will cause the tag listing on the right to be organized by the specified bundles.

The del.icio.us loader

You want to use del.icio.us, but you have already dozens of bookmarks in Firefox? No problem. My new del.icio.us loader is the solution.

Just export your bookmarks and upload the file. Then you can choose which tags to add for each bookmark. If you don’t want to add all of your bookmarks, just choose the ones you like to add. Click the last button et voila, your bookmarks are magically added to your del.icio.us account. The script even recognizes the date, on which you’ve added the link to your bookmarks.

So please tell me if there is anything to improve and, most important, tell me if there are any bugs.
